We need to talk more
The idea that division exists because people no longer talk isn’t convincing. People talk more than ever. The problem isn’t silence but a lack of shared understanding. In the age of information, individuals can always find sources that reinforce what they already believe, which makes them more rigid in their views. When everyone arrives armed with their own version of “evidence,” disagreement becomes inevitable. Podcasts are a good example. There are more conversations happening publicly than ever before. So maybe the issue should be reframed. What people often mean when they say “people don’t talk anymore” is really that “people don’t agree with me anymore.
